The Great LOGAN Nose-On Luncheon

The 2019 Great LOGAN Nose-On Luncheon could not have been more successful. We had a record attendance, filling the Century Center with 1,133 guests.  The luncheon featured Chris Ulmer, the teacher behind the popular video blog, Special Books by Special Kids as the keynote speaker. We all nose him from Facebook and Youtube. Chris travels the world getting to nose children and adults with disabilities and sharing their stories. In just two years, he’s grown his community to more than 3 million friends worldwide. Chris shares LOGAN’s vision to create a community where kindness and dignity enrich the lives of everyone.

LOGAN’s Run filled with ‘Big Moments’

LOGAN’s Run drew 1,164 runners and walkers this year. Add to that number the 200-plus volunteers working behind the scenes, and the family members cheering on their runners, and we easily had about 1,500 people on the campus of Notre Dame on the first Saturday in August. Our run has become a tradition and highlight of the summer for many in the community as it demonstrates LOGAN’s mission in action, with everyone participating. LOGAN’s Run raised about $84,000 in sponsorship support and participation fees. The awareness it raised is immeasurable.

NewmanFest brings band back together

Jack Daly, retiring Director of LOGAN Protective Services, played a few songs with the Motown Machine during the sixth-annual NewmanFest on October 20 at The Brick in South Bend. During a break in the music, he presented Dr. Thomas Spencer, a longtime member of the Protective Services and Human Rights committees, the Dolly Donahue Award for volunteer service. The sold-out event raised a little more than $30,000 for LOGAN Protective Services, a program funded solely by donations.

What a busy year we had!

Here are four more events that made it memorable.

Open House at Benton Harbor

Three years after opening in Benton Harbor, the LOGAN Autism Learning Center - Southwest Michigan has been formally named the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Building. The name honors the family foundation that awarded $400,000 for the Center. LOGAN honored the Weinbergs and all the donors who contributed to the $1.6 million building campaign during a special building dedication and donor recognition event October 17.

Bowling for Autism

LOGAN friends and family in Southwest Michigan took over Kelley’s Bowl in St. Joseph, Michigan on April 27 for the 10th annual Bowling for Autism fundraiser. What started as a small event in 2010, occupying only a few lanes, has grown so big, Kelley’s closes to the public and makes it a LOGAN night. The event raised more than $12,000. Participants enjoyed unlimited bowling, pizza, prizes and camaraderie, all to benefit the LOGAN Autism Learning Center – Southwest Michigan in Benton Harbor.
